AGELESS STYLE: Wardrobe staples for everyone by fashion stylist Arabella Greenhill

I'm not going to reveal how many trench coats I own but I have collected many great ones over the years, so I know what to look for and how to wear them.

They’re a wardrobe essential that never goes out of fashion, making them a worthy investment piece.

This season, iterations of the classic include billowing silhouettes, leather and – for the more adventurous – statement metallics.

THE TRENCH COAT

  • Oversized cuts are great for layering. It doesn’t matter if the shoulder seams hang below where they should naturally sit – just be sure to pair with something more fitted on your lower half. The hem should hit the middle of your calf, or just below.
  • Use the belt to show off your waist, even when the coat is undone, by tying it in a bow at the back so the coat flatters as it hangs.
  • Play around with colour – olive and chocolate brown are popular this season.
